Joey Flower

Toward the end of the school year my little girl, whom we affectionately call Bis, came home with a bag full of dirt.  It was supposed to be a styrofoam cup with a sunflower seed planted in it.  Also, it was supposed to say “Madalyn” on the cup.  Madalyn is her name at school.

But instead she came home with a bag full of dirt and a cup turned sideways inside.  And on the cup it said, “Joey.”

When Joey started to cry on the bus because his bag fell over and got spilled.  Madalyn traded him his bag of dirt for her well-cared-for bag with upright styrofoam cup that said “Madalyn” on it.  Joey went home with a smile and a Madalyn Flower.  Bis came home with a smile and a Joey Flower.

Grace grows toward the sun.
