A poem

In the middle of raking and blowing and dragging piles of leaves I paused to notice one leaf in particular.  Sometimes it’s good to slow down whatever it is you’re doing and notice something small.  It’s especially good to notice one part of the whole.  One nail of thousands that hold up a house, one bubble next to hundreds of thousands in the bathtub, one blade of grass in your lawn, one tree in the forest.  Notice the one of many that make up the whole.

One small browning leaf

reaches with each arm

toward its choking center in

an attempt to eek out one more moment

creating food from the waning sunlight

There you have it.  What I saw when I payed attention to one out of the many.  What do you see?
